The 12-Step Guide on How to Prepare for Your NYC Flying Dress Photoshoot

You’ve scheduled your dream NYC Flying Dress Photoshoot—yay! Now, it’s time to get ready for the fun. From what to wear to what to expect on the day, here’s your complete guide to make sure your flying dress session is as magical and carefree as you imagine.

Here are the 12 steps that you need to know!

How to Prepare for Your NYC Flying Dress Photoshoot

1. Dress Prep: What to Wear (and How to Change!)

Choose in advance the style you would like for your dress. Your photoshoot will be in a public space, so changing into your dress might require a little creativity. We'll suggest a nearby public restroom when possible, but just in case that’s not an option, wear something easy to slip out of, like biker shorts.

2. The Power of Undergarments

The secret to a flawless flying dress look? Undergarments. Opt for a strapless bra, breast tape, or nipple covers—whatever helps you achieve a seamless silhouette. It’s also smart to match your undergarments to your dress or skin tone to keep them from peeking through in the photos.

3. Safety Pins and Clips: Your Best Friends

Accidents happen, but we’ve got you covered. Safety pins and clips are real lifesavers when it comes to last-minute fixes. We’ll bring some along, but we also suggest you pack a few just in case. Better safe than sorry!

4. Shoes: Comfort Over Fashion (Or Both!)

Flying dresses are all about glamour and elegance, but when it comes to footwear, you want to be sure you’re comfortable. Ask yourself: Do I feel confident walking in heels for an hour? If not, choose stylish flats or sandals that won’t have you hobbling by the end of the session. Trust us—comfort is key when you’re walking from one iconic NYC location to another!

5. Jewelry: A Touch of Personal Flair

To make the session truly yours, feel free to bring your favorite jewelry pieces. Just keep it simple—you don’t want the accessories to take the spotlight away from your fabulous dress.

6. Makeup: Camera-Ready

If you’ve booked our talented makeup artist, you’re already set. If not, arrive with your makeup done and bring along your lipstick for quick touch-ups throughout the session. You’ll be smiling, posing, and facing the elements, so a little refresher might be necessary.

7. Strike a Pose: Practice Makes Perfect

Want to nail those iconic flying dress shots? Practice your poses in the mirror before the shoot. Whether you’ve pinned some inspo shots or have your own vision, it’s important to communicate any specific poses with your photographer right at the start.

8. Go With the Flow: Let the Wind Be Your Friend

For those epic, wind-swept shots that make your dress soar, remember to face the wind! It’s the magic behind the flying dress. Trust us—those natural movements will make for unforgettable photos.

9. Confidence is Key

Here’s something important to remember: Your photoshoot will be in public, and people will stop and stare. But don’t let it faze you! Bring your confidence, and own the moment. This is your time to shine, so embrace the spotlight!

10. Timing is Everything

Your session will last about two hours. This includes:

  • 30 minutes to change into your dress and walk to the location,

  • 1 hour for the photoshoot itself, and

  • 30 minutes to walk back and change out of your dress.

Being on time is crucial to make sure you get the most out of your session, so plan accordingly!

11. Having someone to help your dress fly.

Our Couture Glam is the preferred package because you get the help of a dress assistant. But if you decide on booking our Mini Glam, why not bring a friend along to help.

12. Keep Moving & Have Fun!

The most important tip? Have fun and stay natural! Your flying dress photoshoot is all about capturing movement, elegance, and those candid moments. Keep moving, stay graceful, and enjoy the experience.
